I used to stop there all the time because it’s so wonderfully full of birdsong - something wild and unexpected out here in the desert. I took Ougi there too, because I knew she’d like it. I guess I also thought her presence there might instill the place with some further magic.
It wasn’t until she’d gone for good that I noticed the bony carcasses feathered around the trees.
I haven’t stopped there since.
