She had strabismus, which made it impossible to look into both of her eyes at the same time, but I didn't mind that. The eye that I could look at always seemed to be looking at me wholly and completely and that was wonderful. Plus, most girls don't have strabismus. She was different and interesting.
But we kept breaking up, for this reason or that. Sometimes I did it. Sometimes she did. None of it ever made much sense to me, but we stuck to it because we were trying to prove something. To who, I don't know.
I suppose that's the nature of two. There's a space between and the crossing of that space is perilous and mysterious. So much doesn't make through safely.
