ガス田

The story goes that when Yamamoto visited Texas and saw the enormity of its gas fields he knew that Japan would have no hope of winning the war. It simply didn't have the productive capacity to compete with the US long-term, and this is why he advised against attacking Pearl Harbor.

But his Government didn't listen to him, even though it trusted him enough to lead the attack, which he knew would have to be decisive and devastating if his country was to have any hope. It wasn't devastating enough.

Probably, it was Texas gas that powered the plane that killed him 16 months later.
