It seemed like the simplest thing in the world: attach the nozzle to the hose and spray the flowers. I never thought to look into the nozzle first because why would I? I was only a kid and of course the world belonged to me.
When the force of the water crushed the lizard or whatever it was into the front of the nozzle, I was horrified and saddened and didn't know what to do. I should have checked.
It was an important lesson about how I, and humans in general, can live hard on the creatures of this world even when we don't mean to.
